Looking for a specific recommendation
I totally hope that questions of this sort are allowed on this comm and that the moderators won't crucify me for asking stupid things, but here goes:
Can you recommend me some well-written and thoughtful essays on Princess Tutu?
I'm sure there were some clever posts on this topic in the past, but I don't see "essay" or "analysis" as tags, so I hope you guys can refer me to some useful links.
See, for the upcoming anime con in my country this July, I'm working on a presentation about the mahou shoujo genre. The presentation will include some basic overview of the genre and examination of the frequently used tropes, but then I'll focus on some specific series that are considered to be the genre classics, masterpieces, deconstructions or successful recent examples, such as Sailor Moon, Utena, Madoka Magica, Mawaru Penguindrum and of course Princess Tutu.
Now, while it was relatively easy to find numerous papers on all the other titles (Sailor Moon is particularly popular among the feminist writers, Utena has inspired many a PhD, Madoka Magica is at the moment not only overhyped but also overanalyzed, and Mawaru Penguindrum is recent enough to be in the focus of many anime bloggers), my Google-Fu has failed me when Princess Tutu is concerned.
I already have quite a clear idea on how I'd like to present the series - and Tutu IS one of my very favorite anime of all times. I'd like to focus on the post-modern, meta-textual aspect of the show, and the way that it uses characters as archetypes in order to examine the art of storytelling as such and deconstruct the narrative laws of fairy tales, and all given though the symbolism of ballet (if this made any sense, as the whole idea sounds much smoother and less pretentious in my native language). However, I'd still appreciate to throw a glance at a smart essay or two, just as a source of inspiration and food for thought.
Much obliged in advance.
