After watching the anime several different times and on many occasions, the question of the distinction between Rue's character and Princess Kraehe's character has never really occurred to me.  Through what I've seen, Princess Kraehe and Rue seem to be the same person.  Just, one being a sort of secret identity.  I guess the similar concept would be Duck/Ahiru being the same as Princess Tutu and Mytho being the same person as Prince Siegfried.

A while ago, I came across a fanfic that suggested that Rue and Kraehe were two different people entirely, just trapped in the same body.  I reviewed the fanfic, expressing how the intriguing idea never really occurred to me and the author responded saying that yes, she fully believes that Rue and Kraehe are two different people entirely and that she's seen evidence clearly depicted in the anime show.

I've never really been clear as to what this evidence is.  The only thing I can figure how anyone would draw that conclusion is when  Princess Kraehe starts to appear in Season one and "Rue" has no memory of her or what's she's done in the previous nights.  However, as time progresses, and she comes to know and accept the fact that she is Princess Kraehe there is no longer any memory loss and the characters of Kraehe and Rue seem to meld, in my opinion at least, perfectly well.

Nonetheless, I keep chancing upon small references across fanfic that Kraehe and Rue are two different entities.  And, after thinking extensively about it some more, decided to ask the general community of their opinion of this.  Are Rue and Kraehe two different people entirely, forced into a mutual companionship by means of one body?  If so, what are reasons for believing thus?  And, if not, please explain your theory further  as to why Rue and Kraehe are one in the same.

Thanks to some posts on this community, I thought I'd try my own version of The Prince and The Raven. It was fun, I must say.

Since people have been asking really great questions about the show, I thought I'd pose one of my own. It's something that I've wondered about since a reviewer mentioned it, I think over a year ago.

S/he suggested that perhaps Duck was never "real" in the way Rue and Fakir etc. are to begin with, that perhaps she's a character and perhaps a character that Fakir wrote into being as a child, which is why it's her story he can write in that final scene.

I don't really know how to explain, but it made me inexplicably sad to think that Duck was a character, and one of Fakir's at that, as if somehow that undoes her agency, as if it makes her less real. I realize that's absurd on a number of levels, (I mean, Mythos is a character and I don't feel sad for him about that, and after all, on a meta level, they *are* all characters). Thoughts?
