I asked for drabble requests elsewhere a few days ago to try to get myself writing again. [livejournal.com profile] serika_san prompted me to write something about post-series Fakir confessing to Ahiru.

However, I have an odd mind and this story resulted XD. I finally decided I don't think it's too bad, so I thought I'd share here! It's a one-shot and it's fairly short. Just a bit of awkward fluff, really.

Title: The Perfect Moment
Genre: Humor/Romance
Characters/Pairings: Fakir/Ahiru (though pairing-wise it's mostly one-sided)
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1229

It had been enough time, Fakir had decided. The Prince and the Raven was long over and Ahiru had become a girl again months ago. Looking at it from the outside, their relationship was much the same as it always had been despite the fact that they were no longer helping Mytho. Below the surface, however, Fakir's own feelings had only been growing. He wasn't sure how she felt, but frankly he couldn't take this anymore. He had to tell her and today was the day.

Fakir's initial plan had been to take her someplace quiet where she felt comfortable, such as the lake. The conversation had to go just right, of course. Everything had to be perfect. For a moment he had considered writing it down, but a misplaced word could have messed up the whole thing and he wasn't sure if it would be set into action the moment he wrote it. The middle of the night was probably not a good time to have her wandering around town.

His plan in mind, Fakir took a deep breath and headed toward the door to leave Charon's house. His plan was to head for the dormitories and get her attention from there. However, as he opened the door he found Ahiru was standing before him, her fist raised and directed at where the door had once been and her expression rather surprised. She blinked and remained still for a second. "...Oh. Hi, Fakir!"

Fakir had been completely taken aback by this and was desperately trying to regain his composure. This was definitely not a good sign for his plan, not at all. "Wh-what are you doing?"

Ahiru smiled, dropping her arm and clasping her hands behind her back. "I was just coming to get you, Fakir! There's that performance for the Intermediate class today and Pique and Lilie are in it and I really think we should go watch!"

Something inside Fakir was starting to panic. No, his mind was made up. He had to do this today! "Er, actually I was just about to go..."

"Great!" she exclaimed, grabbing his arm and dragging him out the door. She started heading down the road in the direction of the Academy.

"Hey!" He looked down at her in annoyance before remembering his purpose and glancing away awkwardly. If she'd just let go of his arm maybe he could convince her to go somewhere else...

"I'm really excited about seeing this," she began, looking at the path ahead of them. "I mean, I know I'm not in it cause I'm still in the Beginner's class, but I really think it'll be fun to see everyone I used to be in class with doing a show! Did you know they're doing Sleeping Beauty? That's kinda funny, isn't it? Remember that troupe that came into town before that was doing it and the lady made me dance in front of everybody? Well, of course you do! You were up there, too! I really don't know what everyone remembers about before but I still think it's kinda funny. I guess Lilie's playing the witch. I wonder why they gave her that part? I can't remember what Pique said she was..."

That is, if he could get a word in edgewise.

Fakir was desperately trying to rethink his plan in his head. She was definitely set on going and he didn't want to disappoint her. Maybe he could take her somewhere afterwards...

"...And then they said that once it's over we should all get ice cream or something! I told them I was bringing you and they started giggling a lot; I really don't know why they do that. They can be kinda weird sometimes. But I convinced them that it would be more fun with all of us! Sometimes I think Pique still... er, never mind. But anyway we can do that before we have to go back to our rooms!"

Or not. Dammit, what could he do now? He had finally worked up his nerve (more or less) and he wasn't sure when he would find it again. Was this going to be his only chance?

Of course they were beginning to pass the pizzeria now. It was only a few more blocks until they reached the campus and the ballet building where they would be doing the performance in one of the small theaters. There were bound to be people around wherever they went. And Ahiru still wouldn't let go of his damn arm!

"...and I'm still not used to that, are you? I mean, in some ways it's better, but before..."

Fakir sighed. There was definitely something up with her today. She normally didn't talk constantly like this unless she was either very excited or very nervous. It was probably the former, he decided. She did enjoy anything that had to do with ballet. He was glad that she was able to do it again, glad that she could talk to him again and was still choosing to stay beside him, glad that he...

Argh, he had to tell her!

They were beginning to walk through the gates to the ballet building now. Other students were bustling around them, some rushing to prepare for the show, others wandering in like them to watch. They got a few stares and a few whispers which really wasn't uncommon. From what Fakir could gather there were a lot of rumors about the two of them after all this time, none of which were true. ...yet.

"That's why I'm really glad you came with me, you know?" she said, finally pausing, and looking up at him with a smile.

Fakir stared at her blankly for a second, and then, trying to fight off a slight blush, quietly replied, "Yeah, no problem."

She looked in front of her again as they headed up the stairs, a strange awkwardness around her now. "Well, you really don't have to spend so much time with me, but you still do..."

Fakir opened his mouth but found that his nerves were quickly growing and no sound was coming out. They were walking through the doors. They were going to be in the theater which would be full of people soon. His chance was slipping...

Ahiru suddenly laughed nervously. "Um, anyway, it's really nice of you! I think this is gonna be a great performance! Some of the music students are even playing for it! I think Autor's gonna be..."

There were the theater doors. This wasn't going to happen today, was it? But... But he had planned! It was going to be perfect! What was he supposed to do? He couldn't say it here. He couldn't do it later. He couldn't...

Just then, Fakir heard someone speak. Their tone was definitely embarrassed and it sounded a bit louder and more forceful than someone usually would making such a statement.

"I love you."

Fakir realized much to his horror an instant later that it had been him.

Ahiru stopped in her tracks, her face turning bright red. She looked up at him with her mouth agape. Fakir really couldn't read her expression. Shock? Horror, maybe? Perhaps it was guilt? A storm of whispers had erupted around them, accompanied by a lot of giggles.

She stuttered incoherently for a few moments before she was finally able to form a word. "O-o-okay..."

Fakir sighed and placed his free hand to his head. He really should have written it down...
