[identity profile] wmchichiri.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] tutufans
UPDATE: Deadline extended. All materials must be received by Monday, January 8th. This means that (unless you're going to pay the money for more expensive shipping) that if you live in the U.S. your item HAS to be in the mail by no later than January 2nd.

As [livejournal.com profile] fennelwink has mentioned previously, there's going to be a special Princess Tutu event in Austin, Texas January 27th. For more info: www.ushicon.com

I know not everyone can make it, but years ago some friends and I put together the Fushigi Yuugi Mailing List scrapbook, and a representative of our community gave it to Watase Yuu. I'm thinking something like that would be really nice to do for Tutu creator Ikuko Itoh. I am going to the event, I've already made my reservations, and requested the time off of work. :)

So I'll 1) collate the materials and make it nice and 2) present it to Itoh (and if any other community members will be there, we can try to work it out so we can present it to her together).

International fans are welcome to contribute! Please also spread the word, whether you are a member of the Princess Tutu LJ community or not, so long as you are a TUTU fan, if you want to be a part of this, then please join us!

Overall Guidelines:

1) This scrapbook, and all entries for it should keep with a Princess Tutu theme. If you want to acknowledge her past work, that’s fine, but I need to see SOMETHING that ties it back to Tutu. 

2) Please use archival type materials, acid-free paper, and art supplies. While I will accept materials that are less than ideal, keep in mind that non-archival type materials will yellow and age faster, inks fade and blur, and will not age well. I’d like this scrapbook to last. A little forethought in making sure you have the right tools, will go along way.

3) Art, photos, or letters must be 1-sided (I can’t showcase 2-sided materials in a scrapbook!).

4) Nothing “hentai.”

5) No food, drink or other perishable items.

6) Please try to avoid “fragile” or overly large goods. Remember that any items will have to travel internationally, and through customs. Fragile or overly large items will end up becoming a huge hassle for her to take back home.

7) No fanfiction, or poems.

8) Mo music videos.

How & what you can contribute:

1) Send in your fanart (art must be 11 inches by 11 inches or smaller)

2) Send in photos of you, or your friends cosplaying as Princess Tutu characters. Or maybe you made a Princess Tutu mural and painted it on your bedroom wall. Let's try to keep photos down to 3 x 5inches in size. Unless you have a group shot that requires 4 x 6 inches, or something really special that justifies a larger size print. But it absolutely can't exceed 11 x 11 inches.

3) Send in any letters, Japanese written letters are preferred since there is a language barrier. If you do send letters in English PLEASE make sure they'd be legible to someone who's native language does not use the Roman alphabet (which English uses). If you write a letter in English, it is probably in your best interest to type up your letter instead of handwrite it. Please print or write your letters on acid-free unlined paper. I can't stress this enough! I don't want the scrapbook being all letters, but be part of a comprehensive scrapbook. Letters should be at a font size COMFORTABLE to read, so nothing under font size 10, in a legible font like Times New Roman or Arial, and not in a more artistic looking font like Curls, or Mistral.

Only write on one side of the letter, and please keep yourself to 1 sheet of paper. Letters must fit onto a piece of paper that's 6.5 inches by 4 inches. But I'm also starting to worry that we may be light on submissions, in which case I encourage people to send if they want to write more a second letter at no larger than 10 inches by 10 inches in addition to the 6.5 inches by 4 inches letter. This way if submissions permit I'll post the larger letter, but if we have alot of content, I can fall back on the smaller one to try to get everyone included. When you mail these, PLEASE don't fold them up, mail them in a sturdy mailer that won't get rolled, scrunched up or bent easily. Photo Mailers are probably ideal. Make sure they get stamped "DO NOT BEND" Instead of physically mailing me the letter, you can e-mail me the text of your letters, and I'll print them out on my end.

4) Send in any handicraft. If we have things that won't quite fit into the book, I'll get a box to put the scrapbook and any handicrafts in for her. Quilts, maybe your own fanmade Ahiru plush, maybe a hand crocheted scarf with ballet slippers, a fanmade Ahiru pillow, a replica of the Tutu necklace, a charm bracelet... you get the idea. So long as the handicraft somehow ties back to Princess Tutu, or the ballets Itoh-san pulled from, it belongs.

5) Video is difficult to include in such a way that Itoh can easily access it. I think if you can burn it off to be playable as a normal DVD, non-region encoded, and nothing that requires codecs… that it might be possible! Remember, no music videos. Let's try to keep this as user-friendly for Itoh-sensei as possible. Inclusion of videos will be determined on a case by case basis.

6) I'm going to ask that everyone who sends something in, also donate 3 dollars to the cause to help offset my costs. Scrapbooking and the materials associated with it, are expensive. If by some miracle I actually end up recouping all of the costs associated with the scrapbook materials, I'll then apply any remaining funds to flowers for Itoh-sensei. In fact, people who have no letters, or art, or other such materials to send, can send money. I plan to have a section at the back of the book listing all the contributors.

Mailing

1) Deadline: Materials need to arrive by December 31st, 2006, so I have sufficient time to put everything together. I cannot guarantee inclusion after this date... but if you're running late you can still try to get in. I'll do my best to get your stuff in, I just can't make any guarantees. :)

2) Email wmchichiri at yahoo dot com for the mailing address. Make sure the subject line of the e-mail reads as “TUTU,” so I know it’s not SPAM

3) If you are mailing from outside of the United States, or are mailing it so that it needs to be signed, please notify me when you e-mail me for the mailing address.

4) When you mail in your materials include your: Real Name, Mailing Address and E-mail. This information will be used to list you on the “contributor” page at the back of the scrapbook. Who knows, Itoh-sensei might want to write us back, and this will give her a chance to do so, should she so wish. If that's going to be a problem, send me an e-mail and we can try to work something out. I will also use your “real name” and label every individual item you contribute in the scrapbook. :)

5) I’d appreciate it, if everyone who sends something in could donate $3 to help offset my costs. I’ve already spent well over $150 on out of pocket costs alone.

6) Once you’ve got your materials ready to send, please make sure all art, photos, letters are mailed flat, unfolded, and not bent. Photo Mailers are ideal for this, and it helps to make sure the packages are marked “do not bend” as well!

Goodies for the voice-actors.

[livejournal.com profile] fennelwink made a good point, we've got several of the American and Japanese voice actors attending the Princess Tutu event as well. While I'm not going to undertake any sort of scrapbook for them, I don't mind delivering any goods sent to me to them. If you plan to send goodies for them as well, feel free to do so, and I'll put everything in a gift bag or box for each individual voice actor.

What I’ll accept for the voice actors are: letters, handicrafts, gifts, etc. are all fine. Keep in mind these items will need to survive international travel and customs inspections. Also remember, that the Japanese guests may not be able to read English, and if they can, their ability may be limited. So if you include a letter in English for them to read make sure that it's legible (and thus probably type-written in an easy to read font).

If you send me items for multiple persons in the same package, please label the items clearly so I know who gets what!

Ideas that I have, and I need YOUR help with pulling them off!

1) The front of the scrapbook album has a 3.6 x 3.6 inches visible window. I'd like to have something really special there. So if we have any cross-stitchers, embroiders, or if anyone can think of a great way to use the space... then please do so. I want to go with what looks the best, if multiple people make something, I'll choose one item, any other items will be included inside the scrapbook itself. If you're interested in this, I need it sized at 4 x 4 inches, but keep in mind only the center 3.6 x 3.6 inches will be visible.

2) In really nice books, there's often times a ribbon glued/sewn into the spine of the book that can be used to mark one's place. With the FYML scrapbook there was a "bookmark" of red silk cord, a red dyed feather, and some brass metalwork. It really added a little something extra to the book. I think something similar could really be a nice addition to this book. If anyone is interested, send it in. Keep in mind though that any decoration will be at one end only, needs to not be something that can damage the scrapbook or it's pages, and will hold up well and compliment the scrapbook nicely. This means it will need to be kept relatively flat, and be something relatively sturdy. The overall length needs to be 16 inches so that I can have some leeway when I go to attach it. But again the decoration will only represent 1-2 inches of it, and the rest should all be ribbon or chord. Again, if we have multiple entries, one will be used as the scrapbook bookmark, the other will be added to one of the scrapbook pages or the box for other items that don't quite fit into a scrapbook.

3) I picked up some wedding themed scrapbooking stickers. It just screamed Neko-sensei with some roses. But I couldn't find any roses, and no cat stuff today (that wasn't photorelaistic)... anyone have ideas, a fan-art, or materials to fill that in they can send in?

4) I'm thinking of using some of the ballet's referenced in the Tutu DVD covers, as section cover pages. I got some stuff for the Nutcracker. I'd like to find something Carmen themed, as I think that would be awesome for "the cosplay" section. If someone can find some swan's for swan lake that'd be awesome (I scored alot of yellow duck stuff today). Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, have any thing that may apply? Send it in!

5) I'm going to beg/plead/whine to my friend who knows Japanese to write for us a few lines (unless someone in the community is skilled enough with Japanese to do so?). I'd like it to be the first page Itoh-sensei sees "Dedicated to Ikuko Itoh-san, for enchanting us with a story that has so charmed and captivated our hearts and minds. May your spirit always dance." Does that work for everyone?

6) One of the last things in the book will be the "Contributor" section. I want to list here all those who sent in letters, art, photos, donated money, etc. With their real names, mailing addresses, and e-mail addresses as listed above. On the off-chance she may want to send us a reply or a note. For those of you who are younger, make sure you have parental permission to do so!

7) The very last page will simply be "THANK YOU"

8) The album is an off-white leather album, and most of the pages I got for it will be pastels. I did get a few patterned pages as well for some variety. I figured a color range might help some of you plot your ideas. :)

Here's some pics of the materials I purchased for the scrapbook so far: http://pics.livejournal.com/wmchichiri/gallery/0000e369

In conclusion

I'll take pictures of the finished product, and pictures of the scrapbook (or box if it gets to that) when I give them to Itoh-sensei.

Remember, whatever you send in, is a gift to Itoh-sensei, so you won't be getting it back. It's ok to send a couple of things in, but try not to send in a large amount of items. I'd like the scrapbook to be a "community" gift, and not to start to become representative of just one or two members. :) If you've got a couple of photos, a fanart, want to send in a letter, cool. You give me 20 pieces of fanart, a letter, and 50 photos... um... I think that's overkill. :)

Got a question not covered? Let me know. :)
