Hi there.
I'm also new to the community, having been introduced not only to the awe and wonder of Princess Tutu by my friend
animeshen after her telling me about the lack of male fans. Seeing as she showed me the same bitchin' AMV that got her interested, I had to give it a shot.
Well, what can I say? I love it. I haven't finished it as of yet (that'll happen soon), but I CERTAINLY look forward to it. I mean, really, what's not to love about it, eh?
The animation, the style, the humour, the music, but mostly? The story.
As a man who's dedicated himself to the study of stories, heroic myth and romanticism both in general and as a philosophy, Princess Tutu is, to get a little vulgar, THE SHIT.
I mean, it's a story about stories. Taking fairy-tale logic, adding in a little dash of self-awareness and then wrapping it all up with an art form that's been used for a long damn time to express those same themes? Brilliant.
'Cause, it's about more than just ballet. That's where people start, but I think that's a bad choice. It's about story and character and writer's contrivances and graceful ends . It's about deus ex machina and simple, unspoken love. It's about people learning to feel and to be honest with themselves. It's about the transformative power of love and self-confidence and how good is inherently better than evil, even if it's harder and requires more sacrifice.
Ballet's just a REALLY boss way of expressing it.
But that's me.
I'm AlephZ. And I heart Princess Tutu.
Also? Is it wrong that I always want to call Princess Claire/Kraehe Princess Crow? I'm likely not going to stop. But some opinions beyond my roomie would be appreciated.
