"Edel" in German apparently has several meanings:
I've never seen the last one before, but this is a fairly reliable German dictionary so I don't think it's a fluke. Kinda interesting if you wonder about what Edel was in relation to Drosselmeyer, and the creator confirmed fact that Edel was created (presumably by Drosselmeyer?) from the wood of the Oak Tree. We know that the Oak Tree was deeply tied to the Spinners, and the world itself, and Drosselmeyer is defined by his Spinner abilities...or of course, it could be as some fanworks have portrayed, Edel being a recreation of an old lover of Drosselmeyer's. XP
