Hey all~
I just wanted to share progress on one of my Ahiru wigs! :D
For Fanime 2010 I'm hoping to finish Ahiru's episode 6/Sleeping Beauty outfit. (I've always loved this outfit and I'm excited to make it.) My friend should be joining me as Fakir in the complimentary outfit.
I made an Ahiru wig way back in March of '08 but I had to make a new one for this costume since the style is so different.

I've never had to make a bun or anything for cosplay before. It wasn't too hard, just kind of annoying. XD (Mainly because of the hot glue. I can never get through a project that involves hot glue without a few burns.)
I used tips a friend gave me, plus this tutorial for reference: Here~
(It's a tutorial for making a Sailor Moon wig but making odango is similar to making a bun so it was useful.)

Base wig is a Kelly I bought from Cosworx in light pink.

After the extensions were pulled through and hot glued.
I called it my hair pet. (My dad and brother were kinda weirded out. lol)
Oh yeah, it's not on here yet but before I attached the bun to the wig I wrapped it in an invisible hair net. This is to (hopefully) prevent stray wig hair from popping out during use. Because I don't want to make another bun. lol

Photobucket Dyed extenstions verses the original color.
(I used FW ink this time instead of sharpies and there's a good FW ink FAQ on Cosplay.com if anyone ever decides to use this dye method: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=154280)

It's pretty impossible to get the whole wig in one picture thanks to the hair that sticks up...(Or ahoge as TV tropes calls it. I'm so glad there's a name for it! XD)

I kind of cheated--instead of pulling the wig up into a ponytail and stubbing it, I just cut it super short and layered it, then pulled some hair back. Keeping it a little longer in the back helps to hide my hair and wig cap. Though this was only a test so I was a little sloppy. XD; I'll be getting lighter hair pins or bobby pins so they are less noticeable.
For cosplayers who deal with heavy wigs, one of my friends suggested these hair clips that you can sew into the front of the wig to keep it in place: Here~~
I think these will be useful so I might try them.
Also, I'm going to see if I can push the little crown pin further down into the wig so it doesn't stick up as much. (The crown is just made from craft foam and painted and then stuck onto a hair comb/pin with hot glue. I ♥ craft foam.)

Photobucket It's hard to take myself seriously when doing wig tests so you get a dumb expression picture. 8I
But this actually shows the front of the wig nicely. :D
I wish I could fluff up the bangs on one side to be a little more accurate but because of the way the wig sits on my head, my hair line will probably show so I might have to just forget it.
