For a while now, I've been meaning to sit down and write an honest to Jeebus multi-chapter fanfic for this fandom. I've written humor, and I've written porn, and I've even scratched out a bittersweet romantic ficlet. Still, I haven't been able to sit down and write long fic for PT like I do in my other fandoms, and I may have finally realized why this is: I am an indecisive git. I've been swinging back and forth between two ideas that I like very much, and I can't bring myself to choose between them. I can only afford to focus on one at a time.[Poll #1590700]Fantasy AU:
A re-imagining of the series through the lens of speculative/fantasy fiction. Sort of difficult to explain, considering the events of the fic roughly correlate to canon events, only in a different setting with some different themes and the roles of certain characters altered. Art is a focus for magic, for instance, with the ability to write magic being the most admired and desired because it affords a level of control that dancing ,playing instruments, and even drawing don't provide. Instead of exploring fairy tale archetypes and tropes, there's more of a focus on the nature of myth and its relation to reality. It's... hard to explain in any short terms.
NOTES:
-Most likely just gen, but I'm not going to rule out characters hooking up. Still, that's not the point.
--There may be slash, even if it's just one-sided., if I wind up straying from gen sometimes.
Post-series Soap Opera:
Much, much easier to summarize. This fic is just me taking many of the potential and proposed bleak elements of the series's ending and running with them. Ahiru is still a duck, Rue is still deeply emotionally damaged and clingy, Mytho is buckling under the pressure of her needs/expectations and his responsibilities to his wrecked country, and Fakir is adjusting poorly to his new life and not making friends. Some eighteen months after the series's end, Mytho and Rue return to the town to visit old friends before going through with their official wedding. Somehow, all of this coming together turns into an interpersonal fracas of epic, soap opera proportions.
NOTES:
-This is a deconstruction of the ending. If you really loved the ending and/or don't want to see it messed with, please carry on acting as if this doesn't exist.
-Will contain slash. This is not a possibility, it is a promise. It is a guarantee. It won't happen right away, but it will happen eventually, so be advised.
Note: I only voted so I could just see the effing poll. MY VOTE MEANS NOTHING.
