I think that episode 20 is my favorite episode so far, and is very important to the series developement.
Since I don't know how to go about discussing the episode scene-by-scene, I'll just go by the characters:
Fakir
First, we see him smile again!! That was a beautiful smile. We also get to see what happened in his past, which was quite traumatic. I believe that would be part of the reason he wouldn't have wanted Princess Tutu to restore Mytho's heart; restoring his heart would mean releasing the Raven, and those crows killed his parents.
We also saw how he has the ability to write stories that sometimes come true (sometimes being the key word here). Though, he doesn't write anymore, and refuses to at the beginning when Ahiru learns about this and asks him to try and write Mytho a story that would help them in their fight to save him. (He yelled at her!! Just when they were getting along a lot better.)
However, after he fights Mytho and saves Retzel (his childhood friend/big sister figure), and thinks about what Ahiru said, he has a change of heart, actually writing Retzel a story, then telling Ahiru he believes he will try writing Mytho a story.
Ahiru
Ahiru learned about Fakir's past from Retzel, and tried to talk him into writing a story for Mytho that would come true. We really see her desperation here.
But, when she realizes that she wasn't giving Fakir enough space, she feels bad and immediately makes amends--she puts Fakir's feelings first.
Mytho
We see that he is a lot more confident, and on his own more (like when he was dancing, and trying to get Retzel to agree to "love only him).
But the major thing is when he is fighting Fakir--right when he is about to stab him, he stops himself, remembering the old Mytho and telling Fakir to go away--that he doesn't want to hurt him.
That, I believe, is the point that made Fakir decide to write the story for him.
Rue
It seems like she was starting to have her doubts, as she watched Mytho try and persuade Retzel. She seemed genuinely worried, and there was no hint or trace of malice about her. Even though she only appeared for a bit in the episode, that really stood out to me.
All in all, it was an amazing episode, and I believe that it was setting the stage for the coming episodes. (I actually had to go back and watch it over twice more, just because I loved it so much. ^^;)
For those who have seen it, and have noted other details, I'd love to hear them!! (But please don't spoil anything for me! @_@;)
