I was looking up German baby names for something and came across Rue. I didn't even know that Rue WAS a German name (or anything other than the English word for regret, honestly), so I was curious as to what it meant. According to
THIS anyway, Rue's name means "Fame; notorious."
I found this interesting considering how much Rue seems to want attention and be the center of the show, and how she IS the Prima Ballerina at Gold Crown Town Academy and prides herself in that. This is also interesting due to the second definition: notorious. Notorious can have a more negative connotation than famous, and in a way that also fits.
The most telling thing about all of this is the fact that Rue picked the name for herself, the little Rue who was desperate to be loved and admired. And the name she ends up picking represents just that...both in a good and a bad way.
Looking into things further, rue is also a bitter tasting
flower, and one that was called a 'herb-of-grace' in Shakespeare's Hamlet. And grace is certainly fitting with Rue. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but considering they were developing it for 10 years, IS POSSIBLE. :V THOUGHTS?
Annnd, lastly, I was watching the original Fantasia with a friend, and the part with the Dance of Hours caught my eye and made me think of Tutu. It features a Hippo who's apparently hot stuff because half the animals harass her, and a myriad of anthropomorphic animals in toe shoes. ENJOY! (And yes, there are two parts to it.)
